Dams for flood control

Year: 2001 – 2003

Drafting of the feasibility study

Environmental impacts assessment for flash floods prevention dams preliminary studies in ‘ramblas’ located in Guadalentin River basin, in the arid south-east of Spain.

Guadalentin River is located in the Segura River basin that is considered between the most arid regions in Europe and environmental factors such as climate, morphology, soils, vegetation, etc. are very specific.

Floods occur when rain takes place in a short period of time and ‘ramblas’ are threatened and valuable ecosystems adapted to extreme hydrological fluctuations with severe dry periods and flash foods.

The spur thighed tortoise or Greek tortoise (Testudo graeca) is one of many singular species within the study area.
